Description: Original oil painting by famed maritime artist S. Francis Smitheman. Painting depicts two American Schooners from the great days of 19th century American racing.
Dimensions: Canvas 36" x 48", with frame 55.5" x 44"
Condition: Very good overall. Light frame marking along right edge of canvas. Canvas has been creased in 5 locations from the back. No penetration of canvas or loss of paint. Can be corrected but is not noticable. See photos.
Bio: Stanley Francis Smitheman (English, b.1927) is well known for his art featuring the Golden Age of sailing. Smitheman's works have exhibited in the Royal Museum in London. Smitheman's execution of the seas and the details of the ships he paints has earned him high-praise as the pre-eminent late-20th Century maritime painter. Most of Smitheman's works are painted on oversized canvases and have been added to collections in banks, transport companies and maritime colleges throughout Great Britain and the United States.
