Cameo, 19th Century Shell Carved 14k Yellow Gold
This Vintage Cameo can be worn as both a pendant and a brooch with a hanging loop at the top and a pin across the back. It is made of natural seashell set in a 14k yellow gold setting. It is a large size measuring 1.75" tall and 1.5" wide. The setting has a repeating pattern of Etruscan-Style beading with a thin coiled wire that outlines the frame of the cameo.
The relief-carved design of this cameo is a well known Greek mythology known as "the Three Graces". This design is hand-carved in relief from a natural seashell It has beautiful detail featuring three Graces in Flowing gowns. In Greek Mythology the three Graces were Goddesses of Charm, Beauty and Creativity.
There is some glue visible on the back of the Cameo that could have been from the original craftsman (old hide glue) or a later repair if the cameo had come loose. Never the less it does not translate through to the front of the piece.
