Bio:Toyohara Kunichika (1834-1900) was a prolific and leading ukiyo-e artist of the second half of the 19th century. Toyohara became a student of Utagawa Kunisada in 1854 and later studied with Chikanobu. At only 19 years of age he created his first woodblock scene using the name Kunichika which was taken from parts of his teachers’ names.
